Previous temperature record lasted from December 27, 1978, when in the Amundsen-Scott station the air is warmed up to minus 13.6 degrees Celsius, according to Lenta. ru. Also, a record high for these places the air temperature 25 December 2011 was, according to preliminary data, recorded at the two U.S. auto meteorological stations - Nico and Henry, located 100 kilometers from the South Pole.
At the station, Nico air warmed up to minus 8.2 degrees Celsius, breaking the previous record of minus 13.9 degrees, recorded January 4, 2010. Temperature maximum, recorded at the station, Henry December 25, 2011, was minus 8.9 degrees Celsius. The previous record for this weather - minus 14.5 degrees Celsius - lasted from January 5, 2010.
In early December 2011 the air temperature in the Amundsen-Scott station was below the average values, the components minus 27.8. degrees Celsius.
Amundsen-Scott Station at the geographic South Pole was established in 1957. Regular measurements of air temperature have been conducted since the founding of the station.
